Answers to Questions 1. Does Metrics ICS support any GPIB-USB interface cards? Version 3.6.0 introduces the support of two GPIB-USB interfaces. The National Instruments and Agilent Technologies GPIB-USB interfaces. Please refer to the chart ICS GPIB Support for information. 2. Does Metrics ICS support the HP SICL interface cards? Metrics ICS version 3.3 and greater supports the HP 82340 and HP 82341 interface cards. All cards are automatically detected during the startup of Metrics ICS. Versions 3.4.2 and 3.5.0 support the 82350. Version 3.6.0 introduces the support of the 82357 GPIB-USB interface. Please note that large memory leaks have been noted within the K and L versions of the SICL software combined with the 82350 card. Until those leaks are addressed it is recommended that customers use the J version of the SICL software. 3. Is there support for the National Instrument PCMCIA GPIB interface? The PCMCIA adapter uses the same library calls in the GPIB.DLL file shipped with the other supported National Instruments cards. These drivers have been validated by Metrics Technology and are fully compatible with Metrics ICS. Please note that version 1.60 of the National Instruments driver is the highest revision number supported. According to the National Instruments website, the latest versions of their software do not support this card. 4. How do I get assistance installing my GPIB interface for use with ICS? You should consult the manual that accompanies the GPIB card. Run the diagnostic programs to insure proper operation of the card before attempting to run ICS. 5. Does Metrics ICS support the IO-TECH GPIB card? The current version does not support the IO-TECH cards. 6. Can ICS use the same GPIB card as my other software? Metrics ICS only opens a device on the GPIB interface before it attempts to use it. ICS releases the device upon completion of any command sent to the card. This allows other software to access the card when ICS is not sending commands. ICS uses the default device names for the GPIB card. Verify that the other software is not changing the device names. 7. Will ICS work with the National Instruments PCI-GPIB card? These cards are supported by the current version of Metrics ICS. 8. Where can I get information on XP compatible GPIB cards and software? Please contact your GPIB card vendor. Also refer to the chart ICS GPIB Support for information. 9. How do I install my GPIB card? Refer to the instructions provided by the GPIB card manufacturer.
