3. How can I transfer Metrics ICS data to my UNIX workstation?
The most direct way of transferring an ASCII file to a UNIX machine is to use FTP. This will require a TCP/IP stack running on the PC. This method is acceptable for occasional file transfers. For a more automated method there are several NFS software packages for the PC to allow the UNIX disk drive to be mounted as an NFS drive on the PC. Windows will see this NFS mounted drive, just like any other network drive so the file manager database can be redirected for automated storage of data files on the UNIX machine.
4. Can several PC's running ICS store information to the same file server?
Several Metrics ICS systems can share a common database on a network drive. Care should be taken when setting up the file attributes on each system to include an attribute that uniquely names the system where the data is being acquired. If two machines try to store the data on a common file server using the same attributes, one system could attempt to overwrite the data of the other.
